But you don’t wait till your house burns down rather you want to know whether there is a slightest possibility of that happening and you definitely want to know when things start going wrong to take all the remedial measures.

The volume of traffic to your website and web posts may not be what you were targeting. There are tools available online that help you know how much traffic is coming to your market. If the targeted traffic is not generated then there is something wrong with your web business.
Wrong traffic may be visiting your website and the right one may be going somewhere else. By applying online tools you can know what kind of traffic is coming to your site and also from which locations. Right kind of traffic is as important as the volume of traffic.
The promotional mailers that you are sending may be ending up as spam in others mails. This can work as a total failure of the whole effort. Make sure that that doesn’t happen.
Your website is not having good search engine page ranking to give you the kind of visibility you want on the web world. This may be because of the lack of relevance of the content on your website. If the search engines are not showing you well then you must make changes on your website.
Use the relevant keywords to search for your website. If you are not shown or you are almost non-traceable then work on the keywords. Either the keywords are not as per the competition or the keyword density is not appropriate.
Always keep in mind that the honest effort that you may have put in building the web business can be saved from going waste if you keep track of the same. With constant monitoring of your business strategies you can be sure of getting the desired business results out of your web business.
