What do you want out of a Web Business?

I often ask others who are wanting to start a web business or just starting, what do you want out of a web business? Or in other words what is your purpose? The answers do vary, but the most common response I get is simply to make money. Now although there is nothing wrong with this we all want to make money, I believe there needs to be a more in depth reason before your desire is strong enough to drive you to your goals. Such as your real reason may be to not have to work at a full-time job, or to travel more and to be able to do these things you need to be able to earn money through means that give you more freedom. Other reasons for starting a web business may be to get your message out there or to share your great product or idea with people who will benefit from it.

Questions to ask yourself

So in order to get a more in depth answer there are some questions that I asked myself and found very helpful when I first started, and may be a good start for you as well. You can always take these questions and the answers you have and change them or fine tune them over time and of course there is no right or wrong answer.

• What do I want out of a web business?
• How will I know when I accomplish it?
• How will I feel when I accomplish it?
• What will I do after I accomplish it?

Although they are very simple questions you can discover a lot about what you really want if you put effort into answering them, and as I previously said by finding out what you really want out of a web business, you will find that you’ll have a greater motivation and drive to achieve what your setting out to do.
