A successful website/blog is one that has visitors coming back again and again. I don’t think anybody who has created a website with a purpose would ever deny this. Once all your effort has gone into creating, popularising and promoting your site you must then concentrate in retaining their interest. Basically, it’s a task of involving the visitors in your site, finding a way to continually intrigue them or providing quality content which meets their needs. Make them believe that their association with your site will prove constructive for them.
You can surely succeed in this task if you follow these rules:
Introduce Your Site
What is that you look for in a site in your first visit? It’s obviously its nature, subject matter and activities. This is the same thing that your visitors are looking for. When they come to your site, they immediately want to know what it’s about. I’m not telling you to write long introductions because they may put off the users. But make it obvious what your site is about, if it is something that interests first time traffic more of that traffic will come back.
Provide Easy to Use Navigation
Whether it is a blog on fashion accessories or car parts, a good and easy navigation is always appreciated by the users. Don’t make it complicated for the visitors to find the information they are looking for. For instance, if you someone is looking for a leather iPhone cover in your iPhone accessories blog, he or she most probably won’t be interested in viewing the details of all other pouches and bags first. Imagine yourself in your visitors shoes, if you get frustrated with your own site so will they and you can be sure your traffic won’t be revisiting.
Prove the Worth of Every Page
Relevant and updated information triggers the Internet users to return to your website. So as your user list grows, concentrate on improving and maintaining every page. The best thing would be to visit the popular blogs and sites in the same niche and study their content and presentation style. You will definitely get some great ideas just don’t copy their content!
Know Your Visitors
Creating a blog with care is not enough to retain users. You need to keep a check on the likes and preferences of your visitors. Use free keyword analytic tools to find the most read articles. Knowing what is attractive and useful for the readers will help you create more relevant content that brings in more inbound links. It’s also very useful to know the keyword analysis reports that reveal the most-wanted keywords in your niche.
Welcome Comments
Comments enable the readers to express their thoughts while providing you with valuable feedback. Always encourage your readers to comment on the write-ups and don’t hesitate in approving negative (but not abusive) remarks. This will increase your site’s authenticity and user participation.
Introduce Helpful Reminders To Them
A very powerful way of getting more traffic coming back to your site is to introduce them to ways in which you can remind them your there. Encourage them to join your social networks where they can see your site activities, offer them an opt-in or sign up for a free E-book or Newsletter so that you can regularly email them your activates.
Want some more ideas? I suggest just be reachable to your visitors, your goal here is to have more traffic coming back, so just keep them happy by giving them what they want and you’ll have no problems.

Good point about navigation. Too many people overlook it in their wild chase after all the bells and whistles. In the end, a good navigation system is worth its weight in gold.
