Your website copy is in most cases if not all, the definitive factor between making a sale and not. It is most definitely an essential element of any successful online marketing strategy. So what is the key to getting better results with your website copy?
Well years and years of practice will certainly help, however, you need to start somewhere and the best place to start in my opinion is with the basic principles of website copywriting.
Have Belief in Your Product
The first basic principle to writing compelling website copy is having belief in your product. That is belief in the benefits, the value and the claims of the product. If you don’t believe in it yourself you’ll certainly be hard pressed convincing others to act. So make sure that once you have used and tested the product yourself that you are satisfied if not excited about the results.
Sell the Benefits not the Product
This is often one principle that many copywriters can struggle with in the beginning. You need to sell the benefits of the product not the actual product itself. Let me give you very simple obvious example, if you’re selling a weight loss pill you’re copy won’t be too effective if all you say is “This pill is great it’s green and round, and comes in white container”, rather you would say “This pill will help you lose 1kg in 1 week, without even getting of the couch”. Notice the difference? Of course you would have to back up your claims with results.
Show Real Results
Readers could soak up your copywriting attempt all day long and not take any action, what many really to see are some actual results. You can do this by sharing your own results and by including testimonials of other people who have had a good experience with the product.
Speak to Your Reader
When copywriting you need to be communicating personally with your reader, using a relaxed informal style is a great way to achieve this. A good way to think about it is if you were actually talking to them face to face. This was your readers will feel like they have a connection with you and will more than likely generate trust in what you’re saying.
Ensure High Quality Copy
Great website copy is about keeping your reader captivated throughout the whole story and ideally motivated enough to take action at the end of it, if you start losing their interest at anytime they can very easily find something else to read. This is why it is important to thoroughly edit your copy, then once you’ve done that get someone else to read it and comment, then edit again, also look for more ways to improve on it and make it catchier to read.
Get in Touch With Your Readers Emotions
Usually people act due to an emotion they feel, whether its hate, love, fear, desire, passion or any other emotion. If you are able to connect with your readers and instil any one of these emotions powerfully enough, you could get almost anyone to do anything, including purchasing your product.
As I said these are the very basic principles of copywriting and by mastering these you will definitely have a great foundation to work with, although don’t expect to accomplish overnight, it can take quite some time to develop these skills.
