Ins and Outs of Online Paid Advertisements
Online paid advertisements, as the name indicates are web based. These advertisements are published by online advertising marketers on the web pages belonging to webmasters, with the latter’s permission, so that the website visitors can click on them, for which the advertisers get paid. This has now become a largely profitable way of earning for people who own websites. It should be kept in mind while making ads that most of the visitors prefer concise material.
Types of Online Paid Advertisements
Online paid advertisements are of various types depending on their shapes and formats. They include banner ads, pop-under ads, text ads, news letter ads, pop-up ads. Every kind of online ad has a special purpose. Some of the types of ads are explained in detail below:
Banner Ads: An ad within a banner is referred to as a banner ad. The different formats of banner advertising are as follows:
- Leader board – horizontal banner (480 x 60)
- Skyscraper – vertical banner (120 x 600)
- Half banner (234 x 60)
- Button (125 x 125)
- Wide skyscraper (160 x 600)
- Square (250 x 250)
- Large (336 x 280)
The owner of the website has an option to have either text only ads or image ads on his/her website pages. If the text only ads option is chosen, then the webmaster would have to form one or more text ads within a banner. Banner ads are often displayed in paid email advertising. Adsense and Adbrite are two of the well-known advertising networks; they give out small HTML codes that are into webpage hosting, an example of this can be seen right.
Pop-up Ads: Pop – up ads are a regular kind of online paid advertisements. When a webpage gets loaded, a pop – up appears. A visitor is able to see the pop – up even before the page has been loaded fully.
Pop-under Ads: Pop-under ads are similar to pop up ads, as in they are shown when a person visits the website. The difference between the two is that pop under ads do not appear, but stay minimized so that the website visitor does not get displeased. Once the active window has been closed, the pop under ads are exhibited. This is the most widespread form of online paid advertisements and is growing rapidly in the advertising market.
Uses and Components of Online Paid Advertisements
The most universal use of online paid advertisements is Pay-Per-Click, famously known as PPC. Each click on the advert generates money for the advertisers. A PPC campaign basically contains keywords, a destination URL and the ad. Destination URL refers to the website page that the webmaster wants the visitors to see. Keywords refer to the phrases and words that are written in the search box of the search engine, which will prompt the ad to display.
The amount paid for each click on the ad is calculated using algorithms, which are formed by the advertising networks. An algorithm helps to detect the importance given to each ad, determining their ranks.
